Sacred Devotions · Stations of the Cross

Walk with Christ
to Calvary.

The Stations of the Cross trace the final hours of Our Lord's Passion — from His condemnation to His burial. Prayed especially during Lent and on Fridays throughout the year.

"Begin each station: We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee — because by Thy holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."

The Fourteen Stations

From condemnation
to burial.

Station I
Jesus is condemned to death
Pilate hands Jesus over to be crucified, though he finds no fault in Him. Jesus receives the sentence with silence and surrender — carrying the weight of all our sins.
Lord, may I accept the trials of my life with the same humble surrender.
Station II
Jesus takes up His Cross
The heavy Cross is laid upon His wounded shoulders. He receives it willingly — the instrument of our salvation. Every Cross He bore was ours.
Lord, help me to take up my cross daily and follow You.
Station III
Jesus falls the first time
The weight of the Cross and the weight of our sins bring Him to the ground. He rises — for us. Love does not stay down.
Lord, when I fall into sin, help me to rise again through Your mercy.
Station IV
Jesus meets His Mother
Mary sees her Son — battered, bleeding, bearing the Cross. Their eyes meet. Her heart is pierced as Simeon foretold. Two hearts joined in suffering and love.
Mary, Mother of Sorrows, pray for us in our hour of suffering.
Station V
Simon helps Jesus carry the Cross
Simon of Cyrene is pressed into service. What begins as compulsion becomes, tradition tells us, a moment of grace. He bore the Cross — and never forgot it.
Lord, let me willingly help bear the burdens of others.
Station VI
Veronica wipes the face of Jesus
A woman steps forward in courage and wipes His face. He leaves His image on her veil — the vera icon, the true face of God, imprinted on the cloth of her compassion.
Lord, may I see Your face in those who suffer around me.
Station VII
Jesus falls the second time
He falls again — for our habitual sins, the ones we keep returning to. And again He rises. His love is more stubborn than our weakness.
Lord, deliver me from my habitual sins. I trust in Your patience.
Station VIII
Jesus speaks to the women of Jerusalem
Even now, stumbling toward death, He turns to comfort others. 'Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me.' He thinks of souls. He always thinks of souls.
Lord, turn my grief outward — to those who are lost and in need.
Station IX
Jesus falls the third time
A third time He falls, nearly spent. A third time He rises. If He had given up at the third fall, we would not be saved. He did not give up.
Lord, even in my deepest despair, help me rise through Your love.
Station X
Jesus is stripped of His garments
They take everything from Him — even His clothing. He is stripped of all earthly dignity. He is left with only love. Nothing between Him and the Cross, or between Him and us.
Lord, strip me of my pride and everything that keeps me from You.
Station XI
Jesus is nailed to the Cross
The nails are driven in. Each blow is for our sins. He does not curse. He does not call down angels. He prays: 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.'
Lord, nail my sins to Your Cross. Let them die there with You.
Station XII
Jesus dies on the Cross
'It is finished.' He bows His head and gives up His spirit. The veil of the Temple tears from top to bottom. The centurion says: 'Truly this was the Son of God.' Heaven and earth are reconciled.
Lord Jesus, I adore You on the Cross. Thank You for dying for me.
Station XIII
Jesus is taken down from the Cross
Mary receives the body of her Son into her arms. The Pietà — a mother holding her child. Michelangelo would carve it in marble. But the original was in a field outside Jerusalem.
Mary, hold me as you held Him. Bring me to your Son.
Station XIV
Jesus is laid in the tomb
The stone is rolled across. Darkness. Silence. But this is not the end — it is the pause before the greatest morning in human history. He will rise. He is risen.
Lord, though I face darkness and death, I trust in Your resurrection.

Closing Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, Your Passion and death is the sacrifice that unites earth and heaven and reconciles all people to You. May we who have followed You on the way of the Cross never be separated from You. Thanks be to God.
